Bayern Munich beat Borussia Dortmund 2-1 in the Supercup

Bayern Munich won the 2026 Franz Beckenbauer Supercup by beating Borussia Dortmund 2-1 on 22 August. Nathaniel Brown opened the scoring in the 28th minute, and Michael Olise doubled the lead in first-half added time.

Fabio Silva pulled one goal back for Dortmund in the 75th minute. Bayern kept the one-goal lead, while Dortmund defender Ramy Bensebaini received a red card in the 90th minute.

Brown scored in his first official match for Bayern

Brown entered the starting lineup as one of Bayern’s new players. His 28th-minute goal gave the visitors control without requiring them to abandon their defensive shape. The goal also changed Dortmund’s pressing plan. The home team had to move forward more often, which created additional space between its defence and midfield.

Brown helped Bayern immediately during his first official start. He also continued to defend his side of the pitch and support the midfield after scoring.

Olise scored after assisting the first goal

Olise helped create Brown’s opening goal and then scored Bayern’s second during first-half added time. His movement across the attacking line made it difficult for one defender to follow him through every phase. The second goal arrived at a painful moment for Dortmund. The home team went into halftime two goals behind and had to change the match without allowing Bayern a clear counterattack.

Olise directly contributed to both Bayern goals. He was later selected as the player of the match after receiving the most votes from supporters.

Silva brought Dortmund back into the match

Dortmund did not allow the two-goal gap to end the contest. The hosts increased pressure after halftime and placed more players around Bayern’s penalty area.

Silva scored in the 75th minute after Dortmund improved. At 2-1, every clearance and loose ball became important. Bayern could no longer treat the result as secure. Dortmund needed one more accurate attack to equalise.

Dortmund continued to fight, but the goal came too late to produce an equaliser. Bayern protected the centre of the pitch during the remaining minutes.

A late red card made Dortmund’s task harder

Bensebaini was sent off in the 90th minute. Playing with ten men reduced Dortmund’s ability to press across the full width of the pitch during the last attacks. Bayern could use the extra player to keep possession and move the ball away from danger. The visitors did not need another goal. Their priority was to avoid a foul or turnover that would give Dortmund one final direct chance.

Discipline often decides a close final. Dortmund had reduced the gap, but the red card made another attack more difficult.

Bayern’s two first-half goals secured the trophy

The match was the tenth Supercup meeting between the clubs and the first since 2021. A full Signal Iduna Park created a demanding setting for Bayern, especially after Dortmund scored. Bayern played their best football before halftime. Brown and Olise scored during that period, so the visitors could survive a more difficult second half without losing the lead.

Dortmund’s response changed the tone but not the winner. Bayern completed a 2-1 victory and added the first domestic trophy of the new German season.

Bayern can build on the Supercup victory

One final in August cannot answer every question about the season. It can still show whether new partnerships work under pressure. Bayern created goals in two different ways and then stopped Dortmund from taking control.

Dortmund can also learn from the match. The team improved after the break because it passed the ball earlier and gave the attacking players more support. Using that approach from the opening minute would reduce the need for another late comeback. Bayern also showed calm when Dortmund increased the pressure.
