Brighton score four against Tromso to reach the Conference League

Brighton defeated Tromso 4-0 at the Amex and advanced to the Conference League by the same aggregate score. Charalampos Kostoulas, Maxim De Cuyper, Mats Wieffer and Olivier Boscagli scored the goals.

Three first-half goals settled the tie

Brighton took control in the 22nd minute. Kostoulas met a low pass in the penalty area and opened the scoring. De Cuyper doubled the lead in the 33rd minute after joining the attack from the left. Wieffer added a third five minutes later. Tromso had held Brighton to a goalless draw in Norway, but the visitors could not slow the home side after the first goal. Brighton moved the ball quickly between the flanks and found space behind the visiting midfield. The three goals arrived within 16 minutes. The opening 21 minutes showed why the first goal mattered. Tromso defended with numbers behind the ball and denied Brighton a simple route through the centre. Brighton kept changing the point of attack instead of forcing passes into a crowded area. Kostoulas finally found room when the ball travelled low into the box, and his finish changed the way the visitors had to defend.

Osman’s shot against the post showed that Brighton continued to seek another goal after the break. Boscagli also stayed involved after his first effort was ruled out for offside. The defender did not allow that decision to end his attacking contribution. His legal finish in the 82nd minute rewarded a second-half display that remained active even after qualification was secure. Four separate scorers also complicated Tromso’s defensive choices. Closing the centre-forward did not stop De Cuyper from arriving on the left, and tracking the defender did not remove Wieffer’s run. Boscagli later added a goal from another area. Brighton’s variety was the clearest difference after a first leg in which the Norwegian team had contained every attack.

Brighton used all five substitutions

Fabian Hurzeler changed two players at half-time. Diego Coppola Struijk replaced Lewis Dunk, while Costinha came on for Wieffer.

Ibrahim Osman and Malick Yalcouye entered in the second half. The substitutions kept the pace high without changing the shape of the match. Osman struck the outside of the post after moving into space on the left. Boscagli had an earlier effort ruled out for offside before scoring in the 82nd minute.

De Cuyper’s contribution came from a different route. The left-sided defender moved beyond the first line and arrived where Tromso could not track him without leaving another space. His goal increased the pressure on a team that now needed to attack. Five minutes later, Wieffer’s finish turned a controlled advantage into a decisive first-half period. Tromso’s first-leg work deserves context. The Norwegian side prevented Brighton from scoring at home and travelled to England with the tie level. It remained organized during the opening phase at the Amex. The problem arrived when three different Brighton players scored in a short period, forcing Tromso to abandon the compact approach that had worked in Norway.

Boscagli completed the result

The final goal followed another sustained Brighton attack. Boscagli stayed forward after a set piece and finished from inside the area with eight minutes remaining. The defender’s goal completed a comfortable home win. A crowd of 23,981 watched Brighton secure a place in the league phase. Tromso left the competition after a disciplined first leg and a difficult second match in England.

Hurzeler used the interval to protect players and share minutes. Replacing Dunk changed the central defensive pairing, while Costinha took over after Wieffer’s goal. Later changes gave Osman and Yalcouye a chance to attack a tiring defence. The substitutions did not interrupt Brighton’s possession because the incoming players kept the same width and movement around the penalty area. The league-phase place also adds fixtures to Brighton’s autumn schedule. That consequence will test squad depth across domestic and European weeks. The five substitutions in this match offered an early example of how Hurzeler can distribute minutes. Qualification was secured through four different scorers rather than one forward carrying the entire attack.
