Inter beat Monza 4-1 in their Serie A opener

Inter began the Serie A season with a 4-1 home win over Monza on 22 August. The visitors answered Inter’s opening pressure and levelled the score through Gustavo Varela around the half-hour mark.

Inter then played better and scored three more goals. The champions used their chances more effectively. Monza kept the first part of the match closer than the final score suggests.

Monza equalised during the first half

Monza did not remain passive after Inter moved ahead. The visitors pressed when an Inter pass was slow and looked for space before Inter could organise its defence. Varela scored the equaliser, showing that Inter left too much space between midfield and defence when several players moved forward.

The 1-1 score gave Monza a chance to earn a result. The team then needed to remain organised when Inter increased the pace and moved more players toward the penalty area.

Inter attacked better after Monza equalised

The champions moved the ball faster across the width of the pitch. That change forced Monza’s defence to shift and created gaps for passes between the full-back and central defender. Inter also placed more midfielders behind each attack. When a Monza defender kicked a crossed ball away, an Inter player often reached the ball first. Monza therefore had fewer chances to leave its own half.

Inter kept the ball near Monza’s penalty area and produced more accurate shots. The home team took the lead again before Monza could slow the match.

Inter scored three more goals after halftime

Monza needed to chase the score after the break, which opened more space for Inter. The home side could attack a defence that was no longer positioned in one compact block.

Inter used those spaces without rushing every forward pass. One player dribbled toward a defender and then passed to a teammate in a better position.

Each additional goal made Monza’s task harder. The visitors had to take more risks, while Inter could keep the ball and protect the centre.

Inter remained in control after making substitutions

Lautaro Martinez played 54 minutes before Inter changed its attacking group. The substitution did not remove the team’s ability to hold the ball near Monza’s penalty area. A strong bench matters during the opening weeks because players are still improving their fitness. Substitute players can keep the same formation and energy until the end.

Inter’s substitutes understood their roles and helped the team finish the match without giving Monza another chance to recover.

Esposito’s goal was also important for the young striker. He justified the coach’s decision to start him and continued to help the attack before Bisseck scored the fourth goal. Inter finished the first round with three points and four goals, but the team can still improve several parts of its play. The result gave the squad a positive start at home.
