Tottenham sign winger Savio from Manchester City

Tottenham have signed Brazil winger Savio from Manchester City. The move gives head coach Roberto De Zerbi another direct option in wide positions and adds a player who already understands the pace of the Premier League.
Savio said his conversation with the coach helped him make the decision. He expects Tottenham’s style to give him opportunities to carry the ball, create chances and continue his development.
Tottenham wanted speed and imagination on the wing
Sporting director Johan Lange said the club had followed Savio for some time. Tottenham see his movement, mentality and ability in one-against-one situations as a strong match for the squad being built. De Zerbi values wide players who can receive the ball under pressure and then make a positive choice. Savio can move outside a defender or enter the central area. That variety can stop an opponent from defending one route for the entire match.
The winger will still need to learn the timing of his new team-mates.
A fast player is most useful when the pass and the run begin together. Training will therefore focus on relationships as much as individual skill.
Savio proved his quality during a strong season with Girona
Savio began his senior career at Atletico Mineiro after making his professional debut at sixteen. He later moved to Europe and had an important loan spell with Girona. The Spanish club finished third in the league and qualified for the Champions League for the first time. Savio made 41 appearances and scored eleven goals during that campaign. The season showed that he could support a successful team over many months.
Manchester City signed him in July 2024. He made his City debut in the Community Shield and later played in both the Premier League and Champions League.
Savio’s season at Manchester City will help him adapt
Savio leaves City after 84 appearances and seven goals. He was part of the squad that won the League Cup and FA Cup earlier in 2026. Those matches exposed him to opponents who defend in different ways. Some teams leave space behind their full-backs, while others keep many players close to their own penalty area.

Tottenham need him to recognise both situations.
His City record also means he does not need an introduction to the league’s travel, physical demands or short recovery periods. The new work concerns Tottenham’s system and the exact role De Zerbi wants him to perform.
| Career stage | Key record | What it shows |
|---|---|---|
| Girona | Played 41 matches and scored 11 goals | A full season in a leading team |
| Manchester City | Played 84 matches and scored 7 goals | Experience in English and European football |
| Brazil | Played 13 senior matches | International-level experience |
The transfer creates competition across the attack
Tottenham can use Savio on either wing, although his strongest role may depend on the players around him. Competition for minutes should allow the coach to select different profiles for different opponents. Brazil have already given him thirteen senior appearances. International experience adds another level of pressure, but club form will decide whether that total grows.
The signing is an investment in present quality and future improvement. Savio arrives with experience in Brazil, Spain, England and European competition.

Tottenham’s task is to turn those separate lessons into a stable role in their attack.
Savio gives Tottenham another attacking option
Tottenham can use Savio on either wing, but his role does not have to remain fixed during a match. He can begin near the touchline, receive the ball in space and then move inside when a full-back runs beyond him. That movement gives the midfield another passing angle near the penalty area.
His experience at Manchester City and Girona also gives the coaching staff several tactical references. At Girona he carried the ball over longer distances and attacked open space. At City he often worked against a compact defence and had to make quicker decisions in smaller areas.
The transfer also changes competition for places
Savio must now earn regular minutes while several attackers compete for places. That competition gives Tottenham more choices during a long season.
