Hull City、Premier League開幕戦でManchester Unitedを2-0で撃破

Hull City beat Manchester United 2-0 at the MKM Stadium on Saturday. Semi Ajayi scored from close range in the seventeenth minute, and Nobel Mendy added a header in the thirty-eighth minute.

The promoted team returned to the Premier League with an organised and confident performance. Manchester United had more time with the ball in some periods, but Michael Carrick’s side created too few strong chances to change the result.

Hull turned early pressure into two goals

Hull began with energy and kept the distance between their players short. The home team challenged for loose balls and moved forward quickly when Manchester United lost possession. Ajayi opened the scoring after United failed to deal with danger near their goal. He reached the ball inside the penalty area and finished from close range in the seventeenth minute.

Mendy doubled the advantage before half-time. His strong header in the thirty-eighth minute gave Hull a two-goal lead and forced United to change their plan during the interval.

Manchester United lost too many important duels

United struggled when Hull pressed the first pass and attacked the next loose ball. The visitors often received possession while facing their own goal, which made forward progress slower. Hull also protected the centre. United moved the ball across the pitch, but many attacks ended before a player entered a useful shooting position.

The visitors needed quicker support around the receiver. Too many passes went to a player who had no simple next option. Hull then closed the space and recovered their defensive shape.

The second-half changes did not alter the match

Carrick introduced Marcus Rashford after the interval. It was Rashford’s first competitive appearance for Manchester United in 618 days. His movement added another option, but Hull remained compact.

Bryan Mbeumo produced United’s best chance of the second half. Goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis made the save and protected Hull’s two-goal advantage.

Hull did not chase a third goal with unnecessary risk. The home team kept enough players behind the ball, cleared crosses and used possession to reduce United’s momentum.

Hull deserved the victory through organised play

The win gave Hull three points in their first top-flight match since 2017. The performance also showed that their defensive organisation could remain stable against a team with greater individual resources. Both goals came from clear actions inside the penalty area. Hull did not need long spells of possession. They used pressure, accurate crosses and strong movement at the correct moments.

The result gives the coaching staff a useful model for the next match. Energy matters, but the strongest part of the display was the structure that supported it.
